Volunteer postitions

Long term

Long term: Decoration and craft

As a volunteer in the creative team, you help our decoration clique in a range of artsy and crafty missions. From sewing fabrics to making signs, you are comfortable with several tasks depending on the needs of other departments. You are also an attentive listener when it comes to getting instructions. You have a great ability to work autonomously, have a flawless sense of details, and your eye-hand coordination has no match in the West.

Long term: Eco Pirate

You are one of Mother Earth’s personal heroes. Taking care of the earth we walk on, the water we swim in and all of nature’s creatures is a very noble and important task. We take this matter seriously at Waking Life and we count on your help. You’ll be patrolling to land with your crew, making sure no trash stays unsorted, no garbage bin unattended. You spread environmental awareness anywhere you pass and show the example at any time.

Long term: Kitchen aid

Food is an indisputable essential to keep everyone’s mind and body strong and healthy. Under the supervision of our chef and the kitchen team, you are taking care of fueling the tummies in the catering area. Slicing and stirring away will be at the core of your tasks, and we count on your extra-care to keep everyone’s energy in check. You take responsibility together with the team to keep the kitchen clean and stick to the health and safety instructions. Some kitchen experience is required. A healthy body for a healthy mind!

Long term: Office geek

Computer aficionados are needed in pre-production. We need some of these saviours to support the office team, the backbone of the build-up phase. You’ll need to have an overview of what’s going on on the terrain at all times, receive and dispatch the workforce where they need to be. This also includes channeling the information coming from all sides and directing it towards the appropriate teams. If you’re renowned for your topnotch organisation and problem-solving mindset, as well as your capacity to learn how to use programs in no-time, then you’re the chum we’re looking for.

Long term: Production tigers

You’ll be in the heat of the action, assisting the production team with all the physical work needed to build-up the structure bringing Waking Life its shapes and forms. Setting up shades for shelter, elevating the stage structures and woodworking are only a sample of the myriad of tasks you’re ought to perform. On top of a stellar stamina and heat-resistance condition, we’re valuing experience in production or knowledge of power tools. A forklift license or any other type of construction machinery is definitely a plus!

Short term

Short term: Caretakers

Those with a calling to heal, to host or to facilitate wellbeing, will flood the festival grounds with care and comforting touches. The Caretakers are performers, tripsitters, or simply empaths with an eye for anticipating the needs of others. The essence of this squad is curating a spirit of collective care, and showing how a mindful community tends to its members. That’s why we count on you and your capacity to make people feel safe and comfortable. A medical, nurse or psychology background is a plus, but not a necessity.

Short term: Eco Pirate

We take this matter very seriously at Waking Life and we count on your help! You’ll be patrolling the land with your crew, making sure no trash stays unsorted, no garbage bin unattended. Short term: Keeping it safe (steward)

With your sense of observation and assertiveness, you’re comfortable with giving instructions to be respected. You’ll be responsible to guide people around to where they should be (and should not be), as well as making sure everyone keeps cool under the Alentejo sun. In 2022 you’ll notice that the land became the home of thousands of little trees. You’ll be their spokesperson, making sure they are protected from unfortunate mishaps, such as stomped on, or prematurely used as hammock hangers. We’re expecting you to keep up a good mood and be friendly, even when things get stiff.

Short term: Ready, willing & able (accreditation, ticketing, the kit, info point)

There is no other way to put it. You are ready, willing and able to help anywhere we need you. As a natural-born communicator, you can be the face giving a big fat welcome at the gates, assisting organisation teams, or answering the craziest questions at the info point. Wherever you will be assigned, your main mission is to make sure the flow stays smooth, the right info is communicated and everyone is having a good time, even under stressful circumstances.

Short term: Technical support (cinema, stagehand)

With previous experience in technical fields and in making sure the show must go on, operating electronic devices is as easy as pie. You’ll assist the stage manager in setting up and down the stage in between two performances, or act as show master at the cinema. You take responsibility for your action, make sure the material doesn’t go unsupervised and the place stays tidy. You’re also a team-player and know how to communicate with your crew, in an efficient and accurate way.

Short term: Warm it up, cool it down (bar runners, F&B team, kitchen aid)

Behind the scenes, you’re making sure the bars and kitchen are running full steam. You’re either under the supervision of our chef in the catering area, making sure nobody of the crew stays unfed, or acting as a bar runner, dealing with the ins & outs of the bar supplies. You’re organised, clean and efficient, and you have no problem keeping up with the energy such places can convey.
